Shelly Fryer blog post review

Shelly's most recent blog post is about technology integration, titled: Technology 101 Skills for Teachers. This was a great post to read as a semester of my Educational Technology class comes to a close. We have been learning great skills and resources for a future classroom, and Fryer provided us with a reminder of why these things are important. One statement that justifies technology integration is shown below:
I am convinced technology tools should be used to enhance and amplify student creativity
Fryer goes on to explain that this done by providing students with apps and projects that allow them to "make and create" with technology. There are many apps that don't require much interaction and thought from the user, and as educators we need to avoid these kinds of resources. According to Fryer, the only way we will be aware of said resources is if teachers "make and create" with technology too. We need to be actively learning and engaging with technology in order to use it in our classroom well. This is an important argument to make, because I think many adults realize to quick pace at which students figure out technology. Students will probably have more of a natural knack for technology than their teachers, but we need to make sure we stay true to our role as educators and provide opportunities for learning through technology.
Fryer talks about "activities which blend the content areas..." when talking about Quality A Plus. I love the use of the word 'blend' and I think that is a huge advantage of technology integration. By creating projects with multiple apps, it is to create projects with multiple subjects involved.
In this post, Fryer also talks about the importance of a shared space for tech inside and outside of the classroom. One of the great things about her website and Twitter account, is that she gives the world a glimpse of her classroom. Sharing with in the classroom is also important for social discussion and collaboration. Technology and 1:1 makes that easy for students as home or at school.
Over all, I think that this post provides a look at many aspects of technology integration. I urge you to read this post for your self, whether you are an educator or just want to learn about the current classroom, Shelly Fryer provides wonderful insight and wisdom into what good tech integration looks like.
